"
My name is Yung Ok Yoo and I am the Artistic Director and owner of Concrete_id_interiors. I
believe that everyone has a different way of expressing themselves. I
became an artist because I always felt more at ease in expressing my
feelings through the visual. I suppose it stemmed from my childhood -
my father is Korean and my mother is Vietnamese and they both spoke
very little English and I spoke no Korean and very little
mother-tongue. We always had to find other ways of communicating
whether it was through little drawings or hand gestures.
In my formative years of Fine art at The National Art School, I had
formal training in disciplines of drawing, painting, printmaking,
sculpture, and photography (BFA). I later completed my Post-Graduate
degree (BVA- Honours) at SCA, Sydney University where I majored in
Photomedia. I completed secondyear of Visual Commun- ication and
transferred to Enmore Design Centre and finished two years of Jewellery
and Object Design (Dip). After a decade in academia and sporadic
travels, I was ready for a new adventure and challenge.
I started this company because I wanted to merge art with business. To
find an equilibrium between these two aspects where both can coexist
and support each other, 'a healthy tension'. Throughout my studies, we
had to work to a lot of briefs to design and create according to
determined specs. It was always a challenge having to deal with
different themes, mediums, and suppliers. But it was this challenge
that was the driving force for Concrete_id_interiors.
From the early stages of the concept: The First Thought, through to the
creation: The First Stroke, it is a journey. It is about the connection
you make with your art that makes art what it is - a visual expression.
After studying, I think the most poignant penny that dropped for
me in regards to art was that everybody has ideas and expressions that
inspire them, however not everyone has the sensi- bilities to transfuse
it into reality. In keeping with that same vein Concrete_id_interiors
was born."
